Jobs go in Australia as LinkedIn cuts global headcount

Industry insiders say positions have gone at LinkedIn in Australia as the networking platform cuts 6%, or about 960 jobs, of its global headcount.

CEO Ryan Roslansky told staff: "LinkedIn is not immune to the effects of the global pandemic."

Jobs are being shed in sales and talent acquisition.

Affected employees in Australia have begun "consultation about potential impacts to roles".

Shiva Kumar, a popular executive at LinkedIn in Sydney, described the announcement as "one of those saddest days that I have had".

"My heart goes out to all those incredibly talented teammates who are receiving the difficult news," he wrote on LinkedIn. "I have experienced a redundancy so I know how you are feeling."

"To my amazing friends and colleagues who may be impacted, please let me know if there is any way I can help."
